The amplification via an internal Alu primer results in amplicons of ~150 bp. The reverse flanking Alu primer is replaced by an internal Alu subfamily specific primer. The internal primer is located at the 3′ sequence of the left Alu monomer prior to the A-rich region in the middle of the element. The amplification via flanking Alu primers results in amplicons of ~500 bp. The large arrows at the 5′ and 3’ ends indicate the target site duplications
