Leveraging ancient human genomes to understand the role of TEs in human brain evolution. First, profile polymorphic TE insertions in a large number of diverse ancient human genome sequencing data. Second, derive population genetic models to detect TEs under natural selection and/or perform functional annotation of TE insertions to create a refined list of polymorphic and reference TE insertion candidates. Third, conduct experimental validation of TE insertion candidates for their role in human brain evolution.
