Gene sets for expression comparison. Because there were too few genes (orthologs or non-orthologs) with no TE insertions, we designed comparison sets based on the following scheme. We split our gene sets (either ortholog or non-ortholog) into three subsets: those containing recent species-specific TE insertions (ssTE), those containing non-species specific TE insertions (nsTE) and those containing no TE (\(\varnothing \)TE)
